Interactive Resume FAQ

Hey there stranger!

My name is Kel Lind, and I’m an Interactive Media Design Student (as well as a video game blogger). I’ve been working on this idea for a game I’ve been calling “Faucet” for nearly a year now. It’s taken some interesting turns during that year, but I’ve been enjoying the process. You probably have a question or two so I’ll do a quick FAQ:

What is “Faucet”?

“Faucet” is a side-scrolling adventure game. You play as Detective Michael Robbins, investigating a small town. Depending on which version you’re playing, his objective will change. As for the codename “Faucet”? Have you ever heard that some people get their best ideas in the shower? Yeah… Connect those dots… I do intend to change the name a bit before the final release though.

What do you mean “which version”?

When I set out to make Faucet, it started as an episodic adventure game. But in the mean time I got to thinking about designing an Interactive Resume to present to future employers that would contain my portfolio of artwork/Audio/Video, as well as programs I’m fluent in. Striving to not end up with an over glorified DVD Menu style, I ended up merging the two ideas. The objective in the Interactive Resume version is searching for Kel. Along the way, you learn more about Kel, and get to see his Portfolio integrated into the world. Think of this as a prequel/side story.

How will I play the game?

Your question could go a few ways, how wise of you to ask it! You will control the game with the arrow keys (or WASD keys of course) and the mouse. You will be able to inspect certain items by clicking them, and you will use the mouse for controlling conversations with the many towns folk.

As for how you get your hands on the game, I’ll get to that when the time comes. But rest assured, this is just something fun I’m working on so don’t ever expect to be charged for the game. I’m not out to make money, just out to share my work with more people!

When is the release date?

There’s no specific date for the project’s release yet, but I intend the Interactive Resume version to be completed before Summer 2009.

Will there be a demo?

I like to think of the Interactive Resume as a glimpse into what the full game will be like. That’s not to say the Interactive Resume won’t tell a complete story, but it tells a different story.

Along the development of the IR, I will probably release working prototypes as they happen. I’ll release the music as well. Expect some Screenshots too.

Are you making this alone?

I’m doing the art, music, programming, and writing by myself. I do bounce ideas off of people though. I’ll also be having some friends contribute voice acting for the different characters.

Hopefully that addressed some of your questions. If you have a question not addressed above, just leave a comment! Stay tuned, in the coming weeks I’ll upload some of the concept art I’ve been working on!

Thanks for visiting!

-Kel
